Irene Zafiromitsos
Irene Zafiromitsos passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the age of 29.
Beloved daughter of Alexandros and Vicky Zafiromitsos, and cherished sister of George and Demetrios ("Jimmy") Zafiromitsos, Irene was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She also leaves behind a loving extended family, including devoted aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins who shared in her joyful and compassionate spirit.
Irene’s journey on this earth, though far too brief, was marked by an extraordinary sense of love, faith, and resilience. A graduate of high school in Springfield, she traveled to Greece to connect with her heritage and family, embracing life with open arms. Shortly after returning home, Irene was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Though the news was devastating, she faced it with immense bravery and strength. In time, she overcame the illness and lived six cancer-free years, during which she radiated kindness, joy, and empathy. When the cancer returned, Irene fought once again with all her might for two more years. Though the illness claimed her body, it never took her spirit or the grace with which she carried herself. Her rare gift for making others smile and laugh left a profound and lasting impact on everyone she met.
We ask all who knew Irene to remember her not by how her life ended, but by how beautifully it was lived. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene's name to the District 5 AHEPA Family Cancer Research Foundation
