Emanuel N. Logothetis
Emanuel N. Logothetis died peacefully on July 22, 2023 at his Atlantis, Florida home. He was 93
Manny Logothetis was born on March 10, 1930, in Newark New Jersey as the son of refugees from Greece- Nicolas and Anastasia Logothetis. He grew up in the city along with his two brothers Anthony and James. Manny was an inveterate tinkerer with electronics from a very young age. At 14 years old, he opened his own small storefront in downtown Newark where he specialized in the repair of radios which was the most popular form of communication in those days.
Later, he attended Newark College of Engineering at night and continued to study mechanics as well. In 1949, he met Helen Drinis at a church function and shortly thereafter he asked her to be his wife. In 1950 the Korean War broke out and he received a draft notice and to report to Fort Dix within 2 weeks. Soon after the notice, he quickly married Helen in a civil ceremony fearing he would not return and he wanted her to have veteran widow benefits. After reporting for duty, the Army learned he had the scare skill of repairing radios and other electronics which were then used extensively in war. He never saw combat and spent his tour repairing hundreds of handheld battlefield electronics.
After release from the army in late 1951, he remarried Helen in a church ceremony and moved into her parents' house in Newark, NJ. During the first 7 years of their marriage, they had three children: Nick, Steven, and Julie and later moved to Hillside NJ and finally Short Hills, NJ.
Following the birth and early years of their children, Manny's entrepreneurial spirit was unleashed. In 1964, he started a side business of building scale models of new industrial factories such as chemical plants, refineries, etc. In those days before computers, engineers needed models to check for potential construction problems and design errors. In 1965, he branched out into a full-time engineering and construction business based in New Jersey--Joule Engineering.
Joule was the base and start of his 50-year career in expanding and diversifying into several markets and business lines. He added a temporary staffing company, an oil refinery maintenance company, and a printing company. In 1980, he purchased Kahle Engineering, a production and automation machinery company based in Italy. A few years after that, he purchased the Solartron solar collector division of General Electric. In the early eighties, Joule developed expertise in aerospace technology and became a Top-50 contractor to NASA the space agency. During this period, Joule employees participated in many historical events. Joule engineers were stationed around the world tracking the STS (commonly known as the "Space Shuttle") on the very first flights. They also built rocket components and worked in weather and atmospheric monitoring. Later, Joule expanded to operating military bases and participated in logistics for Operation Desert Storm and other projects.
By the mid-eighties, Joule had over 1000 employees and in 1986 the company went public on the American Stock Exchange. At that time, Kahle Engineering was spun off into a separate private company and today is a major worldwide manufacturer of medical product assembly machinery. In the last decade, Joule reverted back to a private company and was purchased in its entirety by the private equity firm MidOcean Partners.
Manny retired from his business after the final sale and he and Helen moved fulltime to their home in Atlantis, Florida. He stayed active in his three church memberships and was an Archon of the Greek Orthodox Church and a Leadership 100 contributor. He also continued an interest in golf and belonged to three golf clubs.
On December 9, 2021, Helen and Manny celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with friends in Palm Beach. Helen passed away on November 10, 2022-one month before their next anniversary. They are survived by their three children; Nick, Steven and spouse Chris, Julie and spouse John, and three grandchildren: Steven, Brittany, and Casey.
Manny will be reunited with Helen at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey.

Helen Logothetis
Helen Logothetis passed away peacefully at Age 91 on November 10, 2022.
Helen was born in 1931 in Youngstown Ohio to Stelios and Theodosia Drinis who had immigrated to the United
States from the island of Samos, Greece. At an early age, her family returned to Samos to spend time with
family and complete her Greek education. Although she was born in the US, many associated Helen with
Greece, and her first language was Greek throughout her life.
Soon after the family’s arrival in Greece, World War II broke out. Greece was attacked and the island of Samos
was occupied first by the Italians and later by Nazi Germany. Her father joined the Greek resistance, and her
early teenage years were spent partially in the village school and partially hiding from the occupying troops.
She often walked several miles a day from her village home to school and back to avoid encounters. Life was
challenging under occupation and food was limited to whatever was available in the family backyard. The
family was trapped in Greece for the duration of the war.
Immediately after the war, the family was able to escape Greece and secure passage back to the US on the
USNS Marine Carp—a troopship from the Pacific theater which was also carrying refugees back to their homes.
She spoke for many years about her constant seasickness on the ship and she avoided small boats whenever
possible for the remainder of her life.
Upon their return to the US, the family settled in Newark NJ where her father worked in the leather industry.
Helen completed her education in Newark and then worked in a local factory. While at a church event in Asbury
Park, she met the Logothetis brothers, Tony and Manny. She was immediately attracted to the quiet Manny
and he asked her to marry him some months later. She joked for the remainder of her life that she had to lend
Manny the money to buy the engagement ring.
They were married twice. The first in a civil ceremony on the day Manny was drafted into the Korean War. And
the second in a church ceremony immediately after his return. The couple began life in Helen’s parents’ home
in Newark. Later they moved to Hillside NJ. During this time, they had three children, Nick, Steve, and Julie. In
1966 they moved to Short Hills NJ where they spent several decades.
Upon raising her family, Helen developed a passion for golf. She had a natural gift for the game and became the
club champion at her home course, Maplewood Country Club. She spent many years participating in golf
tournaments around the country. This passion continued at their other home in Atlantis FL where they lived
from the 70’s until the present day.
Helen is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years Manny; her children Nick; Steve and wife Chris; Julie and
husband John; and their grandchildren, Britany, Steven, Casey and husband Jeff; and Helen’s two sisters,
Athena and Mary.

John N. Prokos
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John N. Prokos (age 70) of Clark, NJ on May 30, 2022.
John Prokos moved to Clark, NJ in 1987 from Harrison, NJ with his wife and four children. John was born in Korthi-Andros, Greece and immigrated to America when he was 20 years old. At a young age he started working as a carpenter and then found his joy working as a Merchant Marine for a Greek ship merchant on oil tankers traveling the world where he met some of his closest friends who migrated to the U.S. with him.
When John arrived to America, he started his restaurant career in Newark, NJ working at the Hill Manor Restaurant where he met his loving wife, Margaret Johnston, who also migrated from Ireland. Thereafter, they shortly got married and owned the restaurant they met in. In 1981 he built and started the successful restaurant, Famous Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge, on Broad Street, Newark, NJ where the patrons from Bambergers/Macys and Prudential came to dine and relax at the bar. John and Margaret owned the business for over 35 years until they decided to go on to other smaller restaurant ventures and shortly retired thereafter. John was also member of the AHEPA.
John is loved by so many. His heart of gold was always there for anyone in need and his door was always open for everyone. John’s passion was for cooking and cars. John always entertained with his wife Margaret at their home where he would frequently barbecue and pour a scotch with his friends and have a cigar. When he traveled to Greece and Florida, his passion was the water and enjoying the view of the many ships and yachts passing by as he talked about his young times on the Seas and Oceans.
John, son of Nikolaos (deceased) and Irini (deceased) is survived by his loving wife Margaret, their beloved sons Niko, Teddy and wife Angela, Billy, and Jimmy; his brothers Demetrios and sister in law Elizabeth, William and sister in law Maria, brother Theodore (deceased) and sister Maria; and his very beloved four young grandchildren, Gianna, Isabella, Vincent and Rose.

Teddy was born in Neapoli, Greece on November 14, 1937 and immigrated to the United States in 1966 with his beautiful wife, Argyro and little daughter Evangelia, who was one at the time. Teddy and his family lived in South Orange for over 20 years. He spent over two decades working at General Motors Company and eventually opened his own business, a shoe repair shop, which he ran until his retirement in 2004. Teddy enjoyed being outside in his wife’s beautiful colorful garden, barbecuing and enjoying delicious food in the company of his friends and neighbors.
Predeceased by his parents, Athanasios and Evangelia (Aggeliki), his four siblings, Kuriakoula, Eleni, Konstantinos, and Giannis, Teddy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Arygro (Roula), his daughters, Evangelia (Lia) Fanos, Smaro (Sammie) Wolz, and grandsons, Andreas Fanos, Gregory and Alexander Wolz, who he adored and was very proud of, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was an active participant in AHEPA and helped in many church events and fundraisers. Thereafter, upon moving to Union in 1986, Teddy and his family joined the local parish of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church where he was a devout member until his passing. Dr. Constantine N. Zois
Dr. Constantine N. Zois, of Union, passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
Born in Newark and residing there until 1971 when he married Elyse Stein (now divorced), Dr. Zois ultimately moved to Union where he lived in the same home for over 43 years. A fascination with the weather and the atmospheric sciences led Zois to a position with the weather bureau and eventually to teaching. Zois completed his master's degree and then his doctoral degree in the field of geophysical fluid dynamics, while serving as an adjunct, associate professor and then full professor at Kean University with an illustrious 50 year tenure. His academic accomplishments earned him many write-ups in the Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
A loving father, Zois was known affectionately as "Pa" to his children and many of their friends, and "Casey" or "Con" to his many friends and associates. He was a benevolent and generous man, having learned these traits from his mother, about whose generosity many articles have been written.
Dr. Zois' fascination with the earth sciences paired up with a desire to travel. He managed to set foot in every one of the 50 states, every Canadian province, Mexico, and his motherland of Greece. His other passions included music (he was a self-taught guitar and banjo player, having also penned a few original songs) and fishing, having spent many summers along the waters of Raritan Bay, particularly in and around Union Beach, as well as winter vacations to the Florida Keys.
Zois is predeceased by his parents, Athanasios Zois and Asimina Zois, and his daughter Jennifer Zois. He is survived by his sister, Calliope (Barbara) Zois, his son Jonathan Zois and wife Meridith (Schwarzber) Zois, granddaughter Violet Zois, and his longtime friend and companion Paul Dlugosz.

Gregory Athanasopoulos
Gregory Athanasopoulos, of West Orange NJ passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
He bravely overcame open heart surgery in September, and spent his last days recovering at the homes of his beloved daughters, enjoyed quality family time, surrounded by the laughter of his grandchildren, with the family dogs always at his side.
Greg emigrated to the United States in 1978 from Athens, Greece, where he spent his adolescent years working hard and enjoying the freedom of his youth. His childhood years were spent in his hometown Ellinoklisia, a picturesque village in the Messinia region in the Peloponnese. He traveled back to his homeland as often as he could with his wife Eugenia (Nia), with whom he celebrated 42 years of marriage the week before his passing. Greg was proud of his heritage and together with Nia, instilled the love of Greek language, Greek food, Greek songs and dance, and the Greek Orthodox faith in his cherished daughters, Kathy and Maria.
He is survived by his wife Eugenia (nee Vanikiotis) whose exceptional cooking and baking he loved to indulge in, his daughters Kathy Fasouletos (George) of Edison, NJ, Maria Grimanis (John), of Denville, NJ, grandchildren Sophia and Alexander Fasouletos and Jenny Grimanis.
His memory will forever be in the hearts of his beloved sister Toula Economou and brother-in-law Nick of Morristown, NJ, sister Theodora Volaris of Messini Greece, and sister Margarita Vlachonikolou of Kalamata, Greece. He will be greatly missed by his beloved brother-in-law Gus Vanikiotis and sister-in-law Barbara of Franklin Lakes, NJ and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and longtime friends.
Gregory is predeceased by his parents, Aikaterini and Nikolaos Athanasopoulos of Ellinoklisia, Greece and by his late brother and best friend, Giannis Athanasopoulos of Athens, Greece. The image of the two brothers driving the entire family to a "paniyiri" (annual festival) in Gianni's blue VW Bus will forever be imprinted in our minds and treasured in our hearts.
Greg enjoyed a good party and loved celebrating holidays with family and friends to whom he extended an open invitation at his Easter lamb roasts. He was a soccer fan and spent his Sundays during the 1980s loyally tuning in to the weekly Greek television program to watch his soccer team, Olympiacos play. Greg's advice to family and friends had a sage-like quality, and he offered it humbly and generously to all who sought his opinion. Always direct yet respectful, he could be trusted to provide a practical perspective on so many topics. The biggest joy of his life were his 3 grandchildren and in his last years he beamed when talking about Sophia, Alex, and Jenny.
Greg, a lifelong painter, spent his years after retirement enjoying good coffee, great meals, jokes and jest, while lending a helpful hand to his sons-in-law, George Fasouletos and John Grimanis at their family-run restaurant, the Americana Diner in West Orange, NJ. His sons-in-law were like the sons he never had and he loved them both unconditionally. He was proud of their dedication to the family business and to his beloved daughters and grandchildren.
Greg was a longtime parishioner of Ss. Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Roseland. Funeral Monday, December 28, 11 a.m. at Ss. Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Roseland. Interment Rosedale Cemetery, Orange.

Peter Pallantios
Peter Pallantios, 93, beloved Husband, brother-in-law, and uncle passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13. Pete was born in Newark, NJ to William and Christina. He was a natural entrepreneur. As a teenager, he sold pretzels and carnations (Mother’s Day) on the streets of Newark. Later on, he was a co-owner of a couple of luncheonettes. He also worked the US stock market.
Pete was a proud American and US Veteran. He proudly served our US Navy in WW2 on the USS Montpelier. He always wore a hat: whether his USS Montpelier or American flag baseball cap or one that symbolized Greece. He was very proud of his Greek heritage, and never forgot his roots. He loved Greek music and played bouzouki.
Sixty-nine years ago, Pete married the love of his life Harriet in 1949. Harriet never left Petie’s side. Pete passed gracefully next to Harriet right after he told her how much he loved her.
In the 50s, Pete and Harriet owned and operated 9 Dunkin' Donuts. When it was “time to make the donuts”, Pete made all varieties from scratch. He was a master baker. He knew how a fresh donut looked, tasted, and smelled.
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Harriet (nee Dillon), sister-in-law Helen Sumas (James, deceased), nieces: MariaElaina Sumas, MD (Patrick Baker), Stephanie Sumas, Christine Delice (Tom); nephews: Nicky Sarames, John J. Sumas (Alexandra Liggatt, MD), and 2 adorable great nephews Theodore James Brinton Pallantios Sumas and James Beau Sumas.
He is predeceased by his sister Bertha (Chris Sarames, deceased) and brother James.
Just like his great spirit, we will miss Pete’s zest for life and never-ending love for Harriet. He shared with all more than nine decades of knowledge, love and experience. He was truly special and we will always miss his strength and pass on what he taught us.

Christos Dimitrakakis age 72, passed away November 24, 2018. Born in Evros, Greece on March 17, 1946, Christos came to this country in 1968 where he settled in Union, NJ. He went on to become a carpenter and opened up his own woodworking shop in Irvington, NJ, where he still worked up until his very last day. He later met his wife Despina and they had three beautiful children together.
Christos was known in the community and to everyone around him as a philanthropist and worked very hard to make sure his family was taken care of. He always had a smile on his face that could light up an entire room. Chris lived his life the way he wanted, making sure that he and everyone around him was always happy. He enjoyed the simple things in life like playing with his grandchildren, being in good company, taking Bella for walks, gardening, and his Sunday trips to the flea market. He was amazing husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and brother, and a friend to everyone.
Christos is survived by his wife Despina, his children George and Rania, his children-in-law Stella and Kosta, and his sweet grandchildren, Christos and Athanasios. He is predeceased by his parents, and his daughter Maria.
