Emmanuel G. Mikros
Age: 76 • Linden, NJ

Emmanuel G.Mikros, age 76, of Linden passed away on November 19, 2016. Beloved husband of Evdoxia (nee Diakos). Devoted father of George (Maria) Mikros of Burlington Twp, Fotini (Athanasios) Kostis of Linden and Athanasios (Madhya) Mikros of East Windsor. Loving grandfather of Konstantinos, Emmanuel K., Anastasios, Emmanuel A., Emily, Matthew, Emmanuel G. and Anastasia. Dear brother of Anna Kalafatis of Karpathos, Greece. Also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Emmanuel was born in Karpathos, Greece on February 21, 1940 to his loving parents, George and Fotini Mikropandremenos. He spent his childhood years in his beloved village of Volada and he earned his high school diploma on the island. At the age of 19, he joined the Greek Air Force and completed 28 months of service to his country. He returned to the island and became employed as the community secretary for Volada where he served in this position for 6 years.

In 1966, he met and married the love of his life, Evdoxia. The couple relocated to the United States in 1967 and settled in New Jersey. Emmanuel began working in the restaurant business where he quickly rose in ranks from dishwasher to chef eventually becoming owner of the Betsy Ross Diner. Upon sale of the diner, he spent the last part of his career as chef at the Galaxy Diner until his retirement in 2002.

Emmanuel and Evdoxia enjoyed the last 14 years of their retirement traveling to their vacation home in Karpathos for six months each year. Emmanuel was fortunate enough to spend quality time with his children, grandchildren and extended family in the place that he called paradise. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Per Emmanuel’s final wishes, he will be interred in Karpathos, Greece. In lieu of flowers, donations in Emmanuel’s memory will be accepted by the family for the church of Panagia Plagia in Volada, Karpathos.
